The Central Coast Mariners men’s team has encountered significant disruptions, prompting the postponement of their upcoming A-League game against Adelaide due to severe flooding in Dubai.
Earlier this week, after a challenging 1-1 draw in the AFC Cup against Abdysh-Ata Kant in Kyrgyzstan, the team faced massive travel delays while transiting through Dubai on their return to Australia.
The extreme weather conditions have led to some of the worst flooding in the UAE city’s history, disrupting flights and resulting in at least 20 fatalities in the area.
As a result, the Mariners match scheduled for Sunday against Adelaide has been cancelled, and no new date has been announced for the fixture.
The men’s match on Sunday was to be part of a double header with the Mariners women who are playing Sydney FC in the Liberty A-League semi-finals.
Currently leading the A-League alongside Wellington Phoenix with 49 points each, the Mariners are also preparing for the second leg of the AFC Cup inter-zonal finals on April 24 at Industree Group Stadium, Gosford, though this may also be subject to change due to the ongoing severe weather.
