Clean4Shore tackles Brisbane Water foreshore

Clean4Shore in action on March 3

Clean4Shore took to the water for Clean Up Australia Day on March 3, set on removing litter from the Brisbane Water foreshore.

Despite only five volunteers attending, the group managed to collect nine large bags of rubbish at a total weight of 420kg.

Co-ordinator Graham Johnston said a lounge which was washed up on the headland at Rileys Bay was removed by the team , with several oyster baskets and small debris also collected.

“Adjacent to the Rip Bridge bulk small items were in the drain, washed from the gutters,” he said.

“Three inflatable plastic rafts were removed from the mangroves – all in poor condition.

“Mangrove Island had more small litter plus a large piece of marine ply, more oyster baskets and pearl farmers’ polystyrene floats.”

In the Woy Woy channel the team found bulk small litter, mainly soft and hard plastics, food wrappings and polystyrene around Pelican Island.

“Larger items on this foreshore included plastic 300mm pipe, oyster baskets, a plastic car seat, a four-metre plastic mat and four very full bags of small litter,” he said.
