A two-metre swell and ideal weather conditions brought out the keen surfers chasing waves off Ettalong on Saturday morning, February 3.
Marine Rescue Central Coast was busy towing a cabin runabout that had ran out of petrol near Half Tide Rocks when the crew noticed about 200 people swimming, on surfboards and jet skis, chasing waves on the bar nearly a kilometre off Ettalong Beach.
“It’s unusual to see people that far offshore,” said one crew member.
The bar forms the official entrance to Brisbane Water and can sometimes be treacherous.
Fortunately, on Saturday morning, it wasn’t.
The Central Coast unit of Marine Rescue will host two information sessions this week – the first on Thursday, February 8, from 7pm and the second on Saturday, February 10, from 2pm as part of a membership drive.
If you’re looking to meet with like-minded people and put some fun into your life by becoming a volunteer with Marine Rescue Central Coast, just turn up at the Point Clare base at the relevant time and members of the executive team will go through the ropes with you.
