We Care Connect is set to help keep child car passengers in the Wyong electorate safe thanks to a $5,000 grant from the NSW Government’s Community Road Safety Grants program.
Member for Wyong David Harris said the program provided vital financial support to community groups and empowered them to address road safety concerns at the grassroot level.
We Care Connect will use the money to deliver a project to keep vulnerable children across the Central Coast and Hunter regions safe through the provision of appropriate, safe car seats.
“Local organisations and groups like We Care Connect know our community best and I’m committed to ensuring they’re supported to implement their solutions to road safety issues,” Harris said.
“Grants to local projects like these will emphasise targeted road safety messages and will contribute to saving lives.”
We Care Connect is one of 19 community groups across NSW to benefit from round nine of the program.
Minister for Roads John Graham said the Government was proud to be backing the efforts of community groups to improve road safety.
“These grants will empower community groups to tackle a range of road safety issues head on, with a laser focus and at a local level,” he said.
“Projects to be delivered will be spread across metropolitan and regional areas, with key at-risk groups a major focus, as we look to promote further awareness of Towards Zero and getting everyone home safely.”
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Jenny Aitchison said that while about one-third of the NSW population lived in regional areas, almost two-thirds of deaths occurred on country roads.
“The statistics sadly reinforce the need to deliver critical road safety investments in the regions and these Community Road Safety grants are part of the Government’s commitment to reducing the road toll across every corner of NSW,” she said.
