NSW Police are urging festival goers to celebrate the New Year safely as thousands of people make their way to Glenworth Valley for the Lost Paradise Festival from December 28-January 1.
A high-visibility operation is underway and will run until January 1, involving officers from Brisbane Water Police District, with assistance from neighbouring commands and specialist units including the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Crime Prevention Unit and Dog Unit.
Police will be targeting drug supply, alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour to ensure the safety of all revellers.
Brisbane Water Police District Commander, Acting Superintendent Guy Flaherty, said police will be on-site to ensure attendees have a safe and enjoyable time.
“We have been working closely with event organisers and stakeholders and are expecting up to 15,000 people to attend over the four days,” he said.
“Officers will be proactively policing entry points, and those who bring illegal drugs into the festival can expect to be caught.
“Festival-goers who choose to do the wrong thing not only put their own safety at risk, but also the safety of those around them.
“Drink plenty of water, have appropriate sun protection and keep an eye on your mates –ensure they don’t wander off alone, and if they appear unwell, seek professional medical attention immediately.”
Officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command will also be deployed to the area to ensure everyone gets to and from the event safely.
“It’s a busy time on Central Coast roads – thousands of people are out travelling,” Flaherty said.
“Drive safely and respectfully, be patient, and don’t drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
