The 27th Nutty Masters Surf Carnival will be held at Wamberal Surf Club on Saturday afternoon, November 4, in memory of Gary Lambert.

Lambert (Nutty) joined Wamberal as a junior and became well known for his ability to handle big seas.

Tragically he died in huge surf off Terrigal 27 years ago.

He was also a committee man for 15 years and represented the club in Central Coast and NSW teams.

In his later years he turned to coaching at both nipper and senior level.

“Gary enriched the lives of everyone he came in contact with,” a spokesperson said.

“He is sorely missed by the club and his mates and family, and he will never be forgotten – a true hero of the surf.”

The Nutty Masters Carnival for Bronze Medallion holders 30 years-plus is one of the longest running carnivals on the NSW Surf Life Saving Calendar.

Registrations will be taken from 1.30pm with water events to start at 2.30pm and sand events at about 3.45pm.

A presentation and barbecue will be held after the events for all competitors and supporters.

Water events will include swim, board and ski and sand events will be flags, sprint and relays.

“Some events have a special fun team handicap,” the spokesperson said.

“There will also be a team wade and a 2km beach run.

“Gary’s sons Charlie and Billy will be joining in on the day in memory of their Dad.”
