As Mental Health Month drew to a close on October 31, Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch said it was time to consider the everyday ways that we could focus on our mental health.
“It is important to remember that we must continue to work towards good mental health each day, exercising our mind and practising healthy strategies,” she said.
“At a recent Parliamentary Friends of Mental Health event, Minister for Mental Health Rose Jackson spoke of the need for self-compassion in the face of the demands of our modern life.
“Every day we face situations which can be isolating and, too often, we fall back on self-criticism in the face of adversity.
“Minister Jackson made a heartfelt point on the importance of practising self-compassion each day, just as we would practise any other physical skill.
“I encourage everyone in our community to join together to talk about mental health, practising compassion and walking together with each other by having open conversations about our mental health and wellbeing.
“As Mental Health Month comes to a close, it is important to recognise that discussions about mental health extend past this month.
“Let’s continue to reflect on the need to go easy on ourselves and support others around us, providing connection to all.
“Community connectedness and social connection is at the heart of good mental health.
“At the end of mental health month, let’s take this opportunity to go easy on ourselves, reflect on how we can support others around us and help those around us connect to services in our community.”
For anyone in need across the Central Coast, services such as Wayahead, Headspace, Lifeline and Safehaven provide important support for Coasties across our community.
