National Parks speaker at Plants Society

Doug Beckers will talk about local endangered plants

Conservation planning officer with the National Parks and Wildlife Service Doug Beckers will be guest speaker at the next meeting of the Australian Plants Society-Central Coast on October 14.

Beckers has developed a wealth of knowledge in Australian plants and plant conservation since leaving school to work with the then Gosford Council as an apprentice gardener, and completing an Honours Degree at the University of New England majoring in Botany and Plant Ecology.

Since 1996, he has worked for the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service and is currently Team Leader Conservation for the Hunter Central Coast Branch, which spans from the Hawkesbury River to the Manning River and west to the Liverpool Range and includes the Barrington Tops and parts of the Gondwana World Heritage Rainforests.

Living locally, Beckers has extensive knowledge of the Coast’s endemic plants, especially those that are threatened and endangered and will be speaking about some especially significant vulnerable and critically endangered plants only restricted to specific localities within the Central Coast.

The meeting is on October 14, at 1.30pm, at 21 Old Mt Penang Rd, Kariong.

Cost is $3 and includes lucky door prizes.
