Last week’s launch of Gosford’s Fun Haus Factory was hugely successful bringing culture, vibrancy and soul all spilling out into Kibble Park adding a much-needed pulse to the city centre as well as a first of a kind – an Art Bar.
Sonic Sundays – a live music day held on Sundays – will wrap up every week with a free, family friendly, daytime live music offering fresh sounds from visiting bands and solo artists, all accompanied by servings of authentic Mexican and cocktails on the deck.
Upcoming feature artist this week is Bek Jensen and her four-piece band bringing forth a distinctive fusion of soul, funk, and RnB.
The second feature artist Juanita Tippins, the powerhouse lead singer of the Brand New Heavies and the actual voice of Gail, played by Debra Mailman in The Sapphires movie.
She has toured the world with Joe Bonamassa, Cold Chisel, sung with Hoodoo Gurus, Marcia Hines and brings her own blend of soul, RnB and reggae.
Part of the organisation’s Gosford culture building includes a pioneering social enterprise “restaurant residency” partnership, “Chilangos Hermanos”, a brother and sister team who have recently moved to the Central Coast from Mexico City.
After seeing no viable options to operate locally, the social enterprise kitchen offered the creative culinary team – through the EOI process – a once in a lifetime opportunity to create and serve up their fresh, contemporary, authentic family recipes from their Abuela (grandmother).
Chilangos Hermanos restaurant is now open four days a week, Thursday to Saturday, for dinner and Sundays for lunch with a bar fully stocked serving cocktails, bevvies and tap beers.
Thursday will kick of Art Centre week where people are encouraged to come and listen to some chill tunes after work while enjoying dinner on the deck overlooking the park.
Friday launches Hot Sauce, a spicy night of contemporary sounds from across the planet with genres stemming from the African diaspora from Afrobeat’s, Reggaeton, Hip Hop and Latin pop to Baile Funk, Bossa Nova and Afro Latin House tilting right through to Dancehall, Bollywood, Kuduro and beyond.
Saturday will be a regular Alt party night focusing on an EMO theme so if you like heartache harmonies and smudged eyeliner come headbanging with the homies at EMO SaturSLAY with resident DJ Jakesy Hustle who will take you on a ride into the darker, heavier, more heart-breaky genres serving you emo, alternative, nu-metal, grunge, pop punk and metalcore.
Coming up soon will be the Welcome Choir – karaoke on steroids – Gosford Comedy Club, Burlesque, Circus and Sideshow reviews, literary events and loads of live music.
