Caught by highway patrol and loses car

Highway Patrol catches driver at Erina

A Central Coast man who had been disqualified from driving will likely have his car forfeited to the Crown after being caught by the Police Highway Patrol at Erina.

The 48 year old was spotted at about 2.30pm on Friday, October 13, by police patrolling the Central Coast Hwy at Erina, who noticed the Mitsubishi Pajero with no front number plate.

Police stopped the vehicle and the driver was unable to produce a licence and it was discovered that he was disqualified until 2024.

Further checks on the vehicle revealed that the vehicles plates were confiscated on October 1, 2023, due to the man being detected driving three times disqualified in a five-year period which is a sanctionable offence.

Police noted a number plate attached to the rear of the vehicle that did not belong to it.

The driver was placed under arrest and conveyed to Gosford Police station where he was charged with: drive vehicle during disqualification second-plus offence; operate vehicle in confiscation period with plate affixed; operate vehicle during number plate confiscation period; use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed; use unregistered registrable class A motor vehicle; and use uninsured motor vehicle on road.

The driver was granted conditional bail not to occupy the driver’s seat of any motor vehicle and he will appear before Gosford Local Court at a later date.

The vehicle was seized by police and under sanctionable vehicle legislation an application will be made for the vehicle to be forfeited to the Crown.
