Rare shot of a kite at Blue Haven

Allan Cooper's beautiful shot of a kite above his home.

Photographer Allan Cooper captured a rare shot of a beautiful kite as it circled over his home at Blue Haven recently.

“From the light colouring it might be a juvenile or teenager; seems the feathers grow darker with maturity,” Cooper said.

“Years ago Readers Digest featured a story of a hang glider who was in serious trouble due to adverse wind currents.

“As luck would have it he had an eagle for company.

“The eagle flew in a direction that the experienced hang glider would not normally have chosen.

“However his thinking was that if it was good enough for the eagle it was good enough for him to follow.

“He did and landed safely shortly afterwards.

“Their ability to fly at great altitudes and their eyesight from several thousand feet is extraordinary.”

NB: Edit – the original story mentioned a wedge-tailed eagle, this was incorrectly identified and now corrected.
