Member for Gosford Liesl Tesch is encouraging Coasties to apply for the 2023 Bert Evans Apprentice Scholarships program.

The program will support 150 first-year apprentices with $15,000 each to complete their training and further their career.

Tesch said with the current skills shortage, the scholarship will give a helping hand to apprentices.

“In a skills shortage, NSW needs to have a pipeline of skilled workers, and this scholarship will commit to that, ensuring that students move into rewarding careers, despite their personal circumstances,” she said.

“It is important that apprentices have the ability to complete their training and thrive during the education process.

“The Minns Labor Government is committed to giving our apprentices a helping hand.

“These scholarships will allow more Coasties into vocational education.”

The scholarships are named in honour of the late Bert Evans AO, a passionate advocate of vocational education for more than 30 years.

They are awarded to apprentices in NSW who have demonstrated: financial hardship and/or personal hardship; capability for vocational education and training; and a positive attitude and application in the workplace and in off-the-job training.

Applications are open now and will close on July 21.
