It’s time to shake off the Winter blues and get on your bike for the CCBUG Tour de Central Coast (TdCC) 2023.
The Central Coast Bicycle User Group (CCBUG) held the inaugural event in 2020 as a celebration of the beautiful Central Coast combined with the excitement of the Tour de France.
President Alan Corven said this would be the third year of the event, with the 2021 finish delayed due to COVID-19 and taking place in 2022.
“The idea is simple: to get more people riding their bicycles in Winter when many ‘hibernate’, helping to keep them healthier and provide active social interactions,” Corven said.
“We run the TdCC around the same time as the Tour de France to leverage from the interest and excitement of the event and its TV coverage.
“Cycling is a great way to get some low-impact exercise to improve or maintain health and fitness, to use as transport for short journeys instead of driving or waiting for buses, for sport or just for some fun with the family or friends.
“And it’s so much better for the environment than driving or public transport, with no exhaust fumes and only a tiny fraction of the CO2 emissions in building and running a bicycle compared to a car or bus.”
Corven said the event was run slightly differently each year, as the group incorporated feedback from previous years.
“Last year (2021-22) was the first time we offered a real yellow jersey as the major prize,” he said.
“The yellow jersey winner was based on the quickest time over several stages/rides.
“This year, so that anyone of any capability can potentially win the yellow jersey, we are giving points for all CCBUG rides people join and we plan to lead as many easy-medium rides as harder-longer rides.”
From June 1 until the end of the Tour de France on July 23, cyclists are invited to join as many CCBUG rides as they can to gain points and be in the running (riding) to win the coveted CCBUG yellow jersey, a CCBUG blue jersey or polo or bicycle shop voucher.
Each ride you join will give you one point during June and double points during the three weeks of the Tour de France with bonus points for riding wearing a CCBUG jersey.
