Reid speaks at United Nations

Gordon Reid MP at the United Nations

Federal Member for Robertson Gordon Reid travelled briefly to New York last week to address the United Nations as part of a First Nations discussion about indigenous culture and the environment.

Reid, who has Aboriginal heritage, has become involved in the advocacy of Aboriginal affairs since being elected and particularly in the lead-up to the upcoming federal referendum on constitutional recognition of Aboriginal people.

At the UN Reid delivered a National Statement on behalf of the Federal Minister for Indigenous Australians Linda Burney and also introduced Australia’s inaugural First Nations Ambassador, Justin Mohamed.

His quick visit to New York involved leading a delegation of Australian organisations taking part in talks with other First Nations leaders from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.
