It was a good letter from Anne Aldcroft (CCN380) regarding dog owners not doing their duty.
The only way to educate irresponsible people is to hit them in the pocket with heavy fines.
That is also easier said than done.
I’ve heard that Avoca Lagoon is called the Dog Lagoon – how charming is that?
Visitors to our beaches also complain of unpleasant walks due to too many dogs roaming.
If nothing is done like introducing a yearly dog tax like many countries have to reduce the number of dogs it’s only going to get worse.
The number, as we know, is over 200.000 dogs on the Coast – totally insane.
One day the Central Coast may even be called the Dog Coast – we will be going to the dogs.

I am an owner of 2 dogs and take them all over the coast for exercise. I can usually pick up at least 1 x random dog poo while we are out, BUT the overwhelming amount of rubbish that I come across is generated by humans. Large amounts of wrappings, discarded food, cigarette butts, nappies and wipes, etc. So let’s remind everyone not to litter at the same time we remind dog owners to pick up after their dogs. Dogs bring great comfort to many people and are important family members to many. In my opinion dogs don’t do as much damage to our environment as humans. No surprises there really !
