Leading the way in innovation

The Central Coast Medical Research Institute is representative of innovation born of collaboration on the Central Coast

Business, education and health leaders came together recently for the second meeting of the Central Coast Innovation District Leadership Group, with the brief of supporting the region as a thriving innovation district.

Director Regional Development and CEO for Regional Development Australia Central Coast (RDACC), John Mouland, is the most recent member of the group, which is co-ordinated by the Greater Cities Commission with a focus on strategic initiatives and collaborative leadership.

Mouland said working together was critical to achieving real results in leading innovation at a regional level.

“This Advisory Committee is about bringing together regional leaders from all aspects of our local community, so that we can collaboratively set priorities to continue to grow as a sustainable, productive and profitable region,” he said.

“This collaborative platform will help to identify funding and other opportunities that haven’t before been considered and offer collective support to turn these opportunities into outcomes for the benefit of our entire community.”

Mouland commended the Greater Cities Commission for co-ordinating a co-operative approach.

“I look forward to helping bring to life tangible solutions that really matter to everyone who lives and works on the Coast,” he said.

The Central Coast is one of four innovation districts identified by the Commission as having the best potential to accelerate economic recovery and growth for the broader Six Cities Region.

It sits alongside Tech Central (near the Sydney CBD), the Westmead Health and Innovation District and Macquarie Park.

Members of the Central Coast Innovation District Leadership Advisory Group include: the University of Newcastle; the Central Coast Research Institute; TAFE NSW; the Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council; Central Coast Council; Business NSW; Regional Development Australia Central Coast; Central Coast Industry Connect; Central Coast Local Health District; and the Greater Cities Commission.

The Group will meet again in the coming months.
