Intense thunderstorms and associated rainfall caused severe flooding over parts of the Central Coast on Thursday evening.
Holgate, Terrigal and Bateau Bay appear to have been the hardest hit. Terrigal’s main shopping district was flooded with some damage to cars and commercial premises reported.
The storm front had earlier hit the NSW South Coast and some southern suburbs of Sydney, causing major disruptions to the road network and closing Sydney airport for a period.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued warnings in the afternoon, progressively updating warnings during the evening as the unusually intense storm front swept up the coast from the south.
The Bureau’s official Gosford weather station recorded 64 mm last night while Mangrove Mountain recorded 0.
