Reid all set for new year in Parliament

Member for Robertson Gordon Reid set for the first day of Parliament

Member for Robertson Gordon Reid arrived in Canberra on February 6 for the start Parliament’s first sitting fortnight for the year, determined to continue delivering oh pre-election promises to build a better future for the Central Coast and Australia.

“2023 will be a big year for the Albanese Labor Government; we plan to continue to pass legislation that will improve the lives of all Australians,” Reid said.

“We’re tackling the cost-of-living crisis with our cheaper medicines, and cheaper childcare legislation.

“We’re making investments in renewable energy, to reduce power prices.

“We’re powering ahead and rolling out two Medicare Urgent Care Clinics, with bulk billed services that are open seven days a week, with longer operating hours, as part of our national program.”

Reid said the recently released Strengthening Medicare Taskforce Report identifies the challenges in thr nation’s primary healthcare network.

“It reiterates that after nine years of the former Government’s neglect; freezing of the Medicare rebate for six years, and no strategies to address the decreasing numbers of medical students selecting general practice, our primary health network is in a state of despair,” he said.

“The Labor Government has allocated $750M to deliver the highest priority investments in primary care; furthering our commitment to strengthen Medicare.”

Reid said Labor would continue continue working to progress a referendum on an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament.

“The Voice to Parliament, if successful, will ensure First Nations recognition in our constitution, and form a body of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people that would provide advice to the government on policies and issues that affect their communities,” he said.

“This body will not have the power to veto and will not be a third chamber of government.

“I will be out in the community, holding regular mobile offices, speaking with people about the matters that are important to them and representing their issues in Canberra.

“I encourage people on the Central Coast to reach out to my office if they need assistance; my team and I are ready to help.”
