Terrigal residents’ association needs new members

TARA Vice President Ted Sandeman

The Terrigal Area Residents’ Association (TARA) could be in danger of folding if it doesn’t attract some new members.

Vice President Ted Sandeman said TARA was founded more than 15 years ago as a not-for profit association, with the aims of: protecting, preserving and enhancing the Terrigal area’s landscape and natural resources, character, amenity and safety; supporting and promoting the principles of Ecologically Sustainable Development; and supporting, co-operating and/or affiliating with other bodies or associations with similar objectives.

“Over its existence TARA has reviewed numerous development proposals and made submissions which have resulted in better outcomes for Terrigal stakeholders,” he said.

“Members have promoted and supported Neighbourhood Watch and bush regeneration programs.

“We attended and contributed to Terrigal Chamber of Commerce meetings as a non-member, but when that became defunct we became the sole remaining voice for Terrigal stakeholders.”

Sandeman said the association currently had some 25 members, most of whom have been members from the start.

“The same is true for the executive,” he said.

“We need fresh blood in the membership and the executive to provide the drive to keep TARA fulfilling its role to the Terrigal community and keeping Terrigal’s voice alive.

“Without it TARA will fold and Terrigal stakeholders will lose their voice.”
