Most don’t want early Council election

I read with interest (in) a story in the December 23 edition the comments by the Labor Member for The Entrance David Mehan, who now has to admit that the petition he was supporting calling for an early Council election is something that the majority of Coast residents don’t want.

He was happy to jump in and provide his support to an e-petition that would support wasting more than $2M dollars of ratepayers’ funds to have an early election.

Well, Mr Mehan, after months of the community having the opportunity to support you, only 752 people thought it was a good idea.

Perhaps you should think about listening to the majority of the more than 360,000 people on the Coast who are more than happy to wait until September 2024.

Also, I note that Mr Mehan has chosen to either completely ignore or has not bothered to read the independent inquiry into the Council failure which clearly identified that the ultimate responsibility rested with the dysfunctional councillors.

It is also clearly noted in this same independent report that both the former Wyong and Gosford Councils voted in favour of voluntary amalgamation.

There was no forced amalgamation as Mr Mehan incorrectly claims.
