The Central Coast Mariners continue to defy their critics with a convincing 2-1 win against MacArthur FC in Cambeltown on Friday night.
The Mariners never lost control of the game, despite MacArthur’s best efforts to overwhelm the boys in yellow with a muscular and energetic football match.
The first half featured goals from the Mariners in the 4th minute by Marco Tulio and in the 26th minute Jason Cummings scored after a masterful set play from Sammy Silvera.
The second half was a textbook game of how to defend the lead. MacArthur managed to score a hopeful goal though ‘the wall of Gosford’ ruled out a home-side comeback.
The result was pleasing to coach Monty as his side mentally handled severe traffic delays, muscular rivals and some tough referee decisions to take home the three points and maintain their 2nd spot on the ladder.
The next Mariners game will be in New Zealand against Wellington Pheonix next weekend before heading home to Gosford’s Industree Group Stadium for the January 28th match against Western Sydney Wanderers.
