Last chance to enrol for youth programs

Milkshakes & Masterpieces is a popular youth program

Regional Youth Support Services (RYSS) has put out a final call to enrol in a range of living skills workshops and group activities to run through Term One of the school year.

Enrolments for the eight-week programs for NDIS participants are due before Monday, January 23.

RYSS Abilities Programs are designed to help build skills, independence and resilience through social engagement and living skills projects for young people aged 12 and over who are eligible for NDIS funding.

Most of the programs are run out of the RYSS Wyoming Youth Skills Centre at 9 Warrawilla Rd.

The Socialites program is a chance to get out and about in the community with like-minded people visiting some exciting venues and attractions.

It will start on Monday, February 6 between 10.30am and 1.30pm and transport is provided.

Learn a variety of easy to cook at-home recipes and cooking skills at classes starting on Monday, February 6 between 12pm and 2pm or 3pm to 5pm; and Tuesday, February 7 from 11am to 1pm or 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The Abilities X-Fit Fun will kick-off from 5pm to 7pm on Monday, February 6 when participants will learn new skills in sporting, recreation and leisure activities.

For the creatives there is Milkshakes & Masterpieces starting on Tuesday, February 7 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm or photography on Wednesdays, 3.30pm to 5.30pm or Thursdays between 1pm and 3pm.

Learn to use power tools and hand tools while creating fun woodwork projects in Woodshed Wednesdays under the guidance of a trained educator in carpentry.

These classes get underway on Wednesday, February 8 from 4pm to 6pm.

The musically-minded would enjoy the Thursday programs – Music Makers or Karaoke & Komedy.

Music Makers from 10am to 12pm covers music production with industry professionals from writing the rhymes, mixing the beats and recording the tracks or sing your heart out and try out your comedy routine at the Karaoke & Komedy from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.

There’s something for gamers, too, with Dungeon & Dragons starting on Friday, February 10 from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and for 18 years and older 5.30pm to 7.30pm.

Game On is designed to establish an inclusive gaming community where participants can develop social and supportive connections, starting on Thursday, February 9 between 5.30pm and 7.30pm.

For those on the brink of acquiring a job, the Work Readiness program will help young people to develop skills to get ready for the workforce.

This program is held between 1pm and 3pm, starting on Friday, February 10.

All these programs are targeted, innovative and flexible in their delivery and guided by evidence-based content to ensure relevant, comprehensive and engaging experiences for all participants.
