Australian jazz pianist Matt Baker has been performing in the New York Jazz clubs for about 10 years and brings his Rhapsody of Gershwin concert to Avoca Beach on January 10.
He will present uplifting, joyous music from two of the most celebrated composers/lyricists of the Twentieth Century – George and Ira Gershwin.
Baker will perform George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue with excerpts of the original piano score on piano and vocals, accompanied by his talented band.
The concert will open with the Rhapsody’s true classical-esque beginning, moving through the different worlds of Gershwin shows to crescendo with the Rhapsody’s grand, majestic ending.
The Rhapsody is one of Gershwin’s most recognizable creations and a key composition that defined the jazz age.
It inaugurated a new era in America’s musical history, established Gershwin’s reputation as an eminent composer, and eventually became one of the most popular of all concert works.
The 1924 musical composition for solo piano and jazz band combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects.
The concert will be performed at Avoca Beach Theatre at 8pm on Tuesday, January 10.
