Man charged after police officer struck by car

A man has been charged, and investigations are continuing, after an officer was struck by an alleged stolen vehicle at Somersby on December 26.

A pursuit was initiated which continued through multiple suburbs.

The Volkswagen was driven a further few hundred metres before the occupants abandoned it on Deane St and fled into nearby bushland.

The 42-year-old senior constable was airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital where he is receiving ongoing treatment for serious leg and facial injuries, fractured ribs, and a punctured lung.

Officers from Brisbane Water Police District conducted an extensive search of the bushland assisted by officers from PolAir, the Dog Unit, and Traffic and Highway Patrol

Throughout the afternoon, two men – aged 19 and 24 – along with a 15-year-old boy, were arrested and taken to Gosford Police Station.

The 24-year-old, who police will allege was driving the vehicle, was charged with multiple offences.
