Young surfers do Coast proud

A Central Coast contingent of eight young surfers has acquitted itself well at the first event in the Woolworths Surfer Groms 2022 Competition held at Werri Beach, Kiama, from September 3-4.

Alanni Morris from Shelly Beach took third in the Under 10 Girls, Olive Morriss from Avoca Beach came second in the Under 12 Girls and Mia MacMahon from Norah Head scored a third placing in the Under 14 Girls, with Ivy Morriss of Shelly Beach close behind her in fourth place.

Over 80 competitors surfed in the event which took place in two-three foot conditions.

Other Central Coast surfers to take part were Nixon Vaughan of Bateau Bay (U10 Boys), Indi Vaughan of Bateau Bay (U14 Girls), Harry Blanchfield of Noraville (U14 Boys) and Clive Morriss of Avoca Beach (U10 Boys).

Regarded as one of the major steppingstones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps series caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and South Australia between now and December.

The elite event saw male and female surfers competing in four different age divisions, from Under-8 to Under 14 and was the first event of the series run in the state this year.
