Heatherbrae’s tries in vain to open quietly at Ourimbah

Iconic pie bakery Heatherbrae’s tried to open its Ourimbah store without the usual fanfare for very good reason – but it was not to be.

Pie Baron Russell Cox said he was trying to get their new young staff up to speed and everything humming before launch.

“But as soon as we opened, we’ve been run off our feet,” Cox said.

“I know it’s something the Central Coast have been looking forward to for a long time… people have been following us and they’ve found us,”

“We’ve been working on this new store for well over 10 years now and the weather has delayed us, but now we’re off and running.

The large new bakery is located along the Pacific Highway near the M1 Ourimbah turn off, it will be the third bakery for the brand with two others at Heatherbrae near Hexem and the other at Sutton Forest in Sydney.

Heatherbrae’s Pies was established in 2001, the centenary year of the Australian Federation at Heatherbrae. Russell Cox is passionate about bringing traditional tastes and quality foods back to Australian palates.

Heatherbrae’s Pies have taken the humble Aussie meat pie and sausage roll and launched them into the modern era of convenience food, competing head on with the fast food giants. Unlike large multinational companies, we cook and bake our products on the premises using fresh ingredients.

Mr Cox has built a large two story building with traditional local architectural design elements that strike an impressive sight along the highway.

Historic and artistic displays are being created at the moment and Cox hopes to create a place that is both interesting and nourishing to visit for tourists and locals alike.

  1. We have enjoyed Heatherbrae’s pies & sausage rolls + apple pies for quite a few years at both the one near Hexham and the Bakery at Sutton Forest. As we live at Ourimbah we are only 1 klm from the new Bakery at Ourimbah, and have already visited it several times. Thank you Russell Cox for providing employment to the local personnel.

  2. Bring 1 to Penrith please it would go great
