Central Coast residents have been warned of the possibility of minor to moderate flooding in the coming days as heavy rainfall associated with a potential East Coast Low is forecast to develop over the weekend and early into next week.
Major flooding is possible in the Hawkesbury Nepean Valley.
Rainfall is expected to intensify further next week and may cause additional river rises and flooding along the coast.
In areas of minor flooding, low-lying areas next to water courses could be inundated, minor roads may be closed, and low-level bridges submerged.
In urban areas inundation may affect some backyards and buildings below the floor level as well as bicycle and pedestrian paths.
In rural areas removal of stock and equipment may be required.
In areas of moderate flooding, the area of inundation is more substantial.
Main traffic routes may be affected and s Some buildings may be affected above the floor level.
Evacuation could be required and in rural areas removal of stock is required.
State Emergency Services ( SES) advises that people in areas likely to be impacted by flooding should never drive or walk through flood water and should monitor emergency warnings and weather updates.
Property owners are advised to raise moveable items to a safer level, evacuate if told to do so, secure outside belongings and before leaving; turn off the power, water and take essential medicines and clothes with you.
Farmers should move machinery, livestock, pumps, and fodder to flood free ground.
