Free lifetime registration for rescue pets is now available to people who adopt a pet from the Charmhaven animal shelter.
The animal adoption centre and pound at 2 Depot Rd, has been operated since 2014 by registered not for profit charity, SoCares, on behalf of Central Coast Council.
Free lifetime registration is available at all Council’s pounds and animal shelters for people who offer a rescue pet their forever home.
When a pet is adopted from SoCares, they come already microchipped, desexed, with up to date vaccination, flea and worming treatment, and lifetime registration.
The NSW Government is supporting local councils across the state with $5.8M in companion animal funding in the 2021-22 financial year.
Pet registration fees go directly to the Companion Animals Fund which pays for companion animal management by local councils including pounds/shelters, ranger services, dog recreation areas, education and awareness programs.
The fund is also used by the State Government to operate the NSW Pet Registry and carry out responsible pet ownership initiatives.
RSPCA NSW Chief Executive Officer, Steve Coleman, said anyone considering bringing a pet into their home should explore adopting an animal through a reputable rehoming organisation.
“We’re proud of the NSW Government’s commitment to assist local councils to manage companion animals in their communities,” he said.
“Rescuing an animal has the added benefit of reducing the burden on council pounds and shelters and, importantly, giving these companion animals a second chance.”
