The Disabled Surfers Association has cancelled its Smiles on Dials event scheduled for Saturday, December 5.

Central Coast branch president Ms Rae Fiechter said the committee had voted unanimously to postpone the season start until February.

“Given most of our wonderful surfers require a tandem rider on the board and may need assistance moving from wheelchairs, it is difficult to maintain the mandated 1.5 metre distance,” Ms Fiechter said.

“The wellbeing and safety for all involved has always been our priority and to decrease the number of volunteers on hand to assist our surfers is a concern.”

She said the committee would reconvene in January to determine if it was possible to proceed with events with restricted numbers, under of a Covid-19 safety plan.
