Students engage on social justice issues

Joseph’s students participated in the Mount St Benedict Social Justice Forum

Students from East Gosford’s St Joseph’s Catholic College participated in the 2020 Mount St Benedict Social Justice Forum on June 23.

Back for its 21st installment, the annual forum is an initiative of Pennant Hills’ Mount St Benedict College that connects high schools around the state to discuss social justice issues.

This year’s forum centred around the impact of COVID-19 on some of society’s most vulnerable members.

Discussion was facilitated by guest speakers working across a range of catholic organisations responding to the complex situation as donations dwindle and community need grows.

Twenty St Joseph’s students from across all year groups took part in the forum and according to College Principal, Tony McCudden, were inspired to do more for the community.

“Student’s learned just how much COVID-19 has negatively impacted people who are already struggling in life.

“Our Social Justice Group will now be developing fund raising initiatives to assist organisation, Mary MacKillop Today,” McCudden said.
