Pearl Beach artist, Annie Reid, has taken out the major prize in the 2018 Grandma Moses Art Competition.
Reid’s major prize winning painting of the Californian beachside suburb of San Clemente, was on display during September at the Gosford 50 plus Learning and Leisure Centre, along with the 244 other works entered in the 2018 Grandma Moses Exhibition. Council Director, Connected Communities, Julie Vaughan, said the competition, now in its 36th year, showed it was never too late to learn new skills.
“This year’s Grandma Moses program attracted a record number of entries from new artists, with 36 entries in the novice category,” Vaughan said. “The Grandma Moses art competition and exhibition is inspired by the life and work of, Anna Mary Robertson, better known as, Grandma Moses, who became widely famous for taking up painting in her late seventies and painting more than 1,500 artworks, until she passed away at 101. “Her success and creative talent proves age is no barrier,” Vaughan said.
