Central Coast rail stations have been left off the NSW Government’s Transport Access Program, with none of the 30 in progress or planned projects across the state, fixing problems with local stations.
Shadow Minister for Transport, Ms Jody McKay, joined Member for Gosford, Liesl Tesch, to hear directly from locals at Point Clare Station about much needed accessibility upgrades.
“With no lifts and no ramps at Point Clare Station, access for older people, people with disability, parents with prams, or people with limited mobility, is nearly impossible,” Ms McKay said.
“Residents have told me loud and clear that its time for Point Clare Station to be made accessible,” she said.
Ms Tesch said she called on the government to give local stations their fair share.
“The Transport Access Program is supposed to deliver a better experience for public transport passengers, but the Central Coast has been completely left off the map,” Ms Tesch said.
“Point Clare is an older community, where residents need to be able to access local transport options without having to catch a bus or pay for a taxi so they can get to an accessible station at Woy Woy or Gosford.”
Ms Tesch has been collecting signatures from residents calling on the Liberal Government to fund these important upgrades.
“Since January, hundreds of local residents have signed my petition, and community members regularly visit my office to pick up fresh copies to get them signed around the suburb,” Ms Tesch said.
“The community are leading this campaign and doing the hard yards to show the government just how important and necessary these upgrades are.”
