In response to the Commuter Car Parking at Gosford Station issue, following my previous letter, I believe there is no point complaining if you don’t suggest a reasonable solution.
Very simply, Baker St Car Park should become a dedicated commuter car park. To achieve this, as commuters enter, they take a parking ticket. After they go through the ticket barrier (on the platform side) a machine validates the ticket giving them departure from the car park. Also, State Transport should build a covered, lit walkway from the car park’s level 1 over State Rail land direct to the station, alongside platform 1. With my fi rst suggestion, I see three problems which can be overcome. The second pedestrian access to Baker St, especially at night, is well known to be extremely dangerous.
I believe State Government and Council owe it to commuters from Terrigal, Matcham, Springfi eld and other outlying areas to have convenient, safe parking. Is it not logical to use a carpark beside the railway station, a two minute walk once the new walkway is built, for commuters? I have aerial photographs showing State Rail lands. The safe walkway, if nothing else, is essential. I put this to Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast, Mr Scot MacDonald MLC, on June 8. It is a State Government responsibility to provide safe access for rail customers to their stations. This walkway should have been built years ago. There is no point in being important if you don’t do anything.
