Copacabana residents have outdone themselves at this year’s annual Christmas collection, conducted by the Navy Veterans’ Welfare Association in support of The Salvation Army.
Organiser Roque Hammal said the generosity and goodwill was flowing with a complete trailer-load of food and toys collected by closing time on Sunday, December 3.
“But it did not end there,” he said.
“We continued receiving donations for the next two days.
“Residents’ kindness and generosity over the weekend donating toys, cash and goods for hamper will make a big difference to a lot of ‘not so lucky’ children and families this Christmas.
“Christmas can be a wonderful time, but when a tragedy or crisis hits it can be terribly hard.
“Children, people struggling alone and families battling to keep food on the table are the hardest hit.
“This Christmas, Copacabana residents and visitors (are giving) hope to Australians battling tough times.”
