Koolewong-Point Clare-Tascott Progress Association (KPCTPA) has taken out a Highly Commended award In the Population CategoryB section of the Keep Australia Beautiful – Sustainable Communities NSW – Tidy Towns Awards 2022.
Population Category B is for towns with a population of between 1,500 and 5,000.
Progress Association President Ken Janson accepted the accolade from NSW Governor General Margaret Beazley at the awards weekend held on March 3-5 at Singleton.
Judges said the community presented well as a “picturesque district encompassing the western foreshores of the estuary of Brisbane Water and the adjoining impressive forested escarpment”.
“The district had good transport links with local buses, railway and M1 highway to Sydney and to the north,” they said.
The judging committee said it was impressed by the amenities provided with new railway station upgrade at Point Clare station and the West Gosford Village Shopping Centre upgrade.
They were also impressed by the Koolewong foreshore stabilisation, with boat ramps and parking bay upgrades and improvements to the adjoining Koolewong boating marina.
The new traffic lights on Brisbane Water Dr at Point Clare, parking and children’s playground facilities at Fagan Park also received a tick.
Judges were particularly impressed that the indigenous heritage of Bungaree, a famous Aboriginal figure of the original Garigal tribe of the area was showcased in information board displays along the foreshore bike track and walkway at Point Clare.
Judges also commented on the revamped community hall and adjoining garden at Point Clare.
