Owners of a Kanwal caravan park used for low-cost housing are planning to expand to 247 sites along with recreation benefits for the park’s community.
Oasis Caravan Park on Wallarah Rd has operated for many decades but hasn’t been used for tourist purposes, instead providing affordable rental housing in a mix of moveable dwellings such as cabins, caravans or manufactured homes.
Plans are to add an extra 101 new long-term sites each measuring 90sqm around the perimeter of the site and convert an existing 39 short-term sites for long-time use.
Seven short-term sites will remain to accommodate caravans.
At completion of redeveloping the 5.6ha park there will be a total 247 sites, an increase of 145 new dwellings.
Also, the redevelopment plans include a new community building and communal open space, a gated and fenced off-leash dog activity area, a vehicle wash bay and 25 extra car parking spaces.
There’ll be improved landscaping and a change in road layout as well as additional emergency access points.
The development application (3997/2022) can be viewed on Council’s website and submissions close on Monday, February 20.
