Lighthouse volunteers enjoy best views on the Coast

Historic Norah Head Lighthouse Reserve

Anyone looking for a rewarding pastime could join the “lighthouse family” of volunteers who enjoy the best views on the coast while helping to keep Norah Head Lighthouse Reserve shipshape.

The award-winning Reserve is managed by a volunteer Land Manager Board with about 50 volunteers involved in land care, general maintenance, tours of the lighthouse and staffing of the small refreshments and souvenir shop.

Volunteers are urgently needed for the little shop which only sells packaged food items such as ice creams and chocolate bars as well as the Reserve’s souvenirs.

There is no food preparation and it’s an easy, fun activity to welcome both local and international visitors to the iconic heritage landmark.

The Lighthouse Festival returns for the fifth time on Saturday, November 12 when visitors can enjoy the breathtaking location with good food, good wine and good company for an unforgettable experience as the famous headlight flashes overhead.

John Butler will headline the entertainment, along with Jack Botts and Central Coast favourites The Sea Gypsies and Elaskia.

There will be a celebration on Tuesday, November 15 to mark the 119th anniversary since the lighthouse opened in 1903.

Tours of the lighthouse are available every day except Christmas Day and Anzac Day between 11am and 2pm or just enjoy the spectacular views, a picnic on the lawn, or wander the Reserve where the Coastcare team has worked hard to protect the natural environment.
