As the world continued to mourn the death of Queen Elizabeth II this week, residents flocked to Copacabana Green to pay their own tribute.
Organised by the Navy Veterans’ Welfare Association NSW, which has been based in Copacabana for almost 20 years, the tribute has been taking shape near the flagpole onn the Green.
Spokesperson Roque Hammal said a flow of floral arrangements and small Australian flags has been steadily growing since news of the monarch’s death on September 8.
“They were placed there as an acknowledgement and recognition for the devotion of service over a 70-year reign by Australia’s longest-serving monarch,” Hammal said.
“All flowers are from the gardens of local residents.
“Children, too, were very happy and excited to be part of the tribute.”
