The Nature Conservation Council, plus Coast organisations including Future Sooner, are offering free Climate Action Now posters and stickers to Dobell and Shortland residents who want to nudge local politicians to do more to cut carbon emissions and boost clean energy.
A YouGov poll in January showed 65 per cent of voters in Shortland and Dobell believe the Federal Government needs to be doing more to address climate change.
Sixty-three per cent of voters In Shortland and 62 per cent of voters in Dobell say Labor and Coalition plans for climate action will influence their vote.
Future Sooner spokesperson Gary Blaschke OAM said there was a silent majority of people at the top end of the Coast who want politicians to do more about the climate crisis, but they are not sure how to get their message through.
“These yard signs and bin stickers are a practical way people can get their voices heard.”
Blaschke said a clear majority of people on the Central Coast wanted action on climate change, but there was a lack of political leadership.
“Political leaders have been twiddling their thumbs rather than pushing the changes we urgently need. They are clearly not getting the message.
“The aim of this campaign is to ensure local MPs and potential candidates can’t avoid getting the message as they drive around the electorate. We’re not telling people who they should vote for; we are just giving them a way to have their voices heard,” he said.
