Kel Wynn claims that former Wyong Council residents are paying higher rates than former Gosford Council residents. (Chronicle p13 Nov 15 “De-amalgamation referendum called for”)
It would be helpful to record a few facts, rather than fantasies.
In 2017, the Gosford City rate was .0031428 and that has dropped to .0024732 in 2021.
In 2017, the Wyong Shire rate was .0045256 and that has dropped to .0028968 in 2021.
In other words, the Gosford rate has dropped by 21 percent while the Wyong rate has dropped by 36 percent, meaning that Gosford residents are bearing the brunt of any amalgamation costs.
Wyong’s rate is to be further reduced in future until the two rates match, favouring the northern part of the region even more.
At the same time, representation on the Central Coast Council has shifted to favour the northern and eastern wards which largely encompass the former Wyong Shire area.
