The 2017 sporting year has lived up to expectations for the Central Coast Academy of Sport.
The uptake of new sports into the Academy’s offerings has set new standards, since the first program was offered in 2004.
For those into history, the first sporting program launched by the CCAS was golf, launched in July 2004.
Since that time, golf has been a sport delivered annually on the program calendar.
Fast forward to 2017, and new sports of AFL (24 athletes), a pilot program for junior athletes, Touch Football (34), Hockey (19) and Tennis (15), have all made entry to the market.
These new sports, along with those returning sports, will have seen the CCAS provide opportunities to over 250 athletes in 2017.
In addition to the new sporting programs, the CCAS will deliver programs in: Athletics (14), Basketball (32), Cycling (8), Future Stars (8), Golf (14), Netball (26), Indigenous Talent ID (20), Surfing (15), Swimming (20) and Tenpin Bowling (4).
Mr Mark Tipple, part of the team responsible for this incredible growth, said: “2017 has been a fantastic year for the academy team and its athletes, and it’s great to look back on the progress that has been made across our sports programs.
“We couldn’t operate without the help of our coaching staff, who volunteer their time to ensure that all sports programs run as well as they do.
“We’re very grateful to our new and returning coaches and managers who have helped so much this year, as we’ve seen the introduction of new programs and initiatives.
“It has been a hectic time leading into Christmas for our small team of staff, but 2018 looks very promising, as we continue to grow and strengthen our sports programs.
“We are currently finalising another new program with Girls AFL now open for applications, taking our intake of new sports to five.”
