Special concerts set for Pearl Beach

Flautist Alyse Faith

The Pearl Beach Music Scholarship and Irvine Family Piano Scholarship Concerts will celebrate 20 years on Saturday, May 24.

The day will celebrate two concerts – the Junior Showcase Concert at 11am and the Pearl Beach Scholarship Concert at 2.30pm.

The annual scholarship concert has been jointly sponsored by the Pearl Beach Progress Association and the Irvine Family since the inaugural concert held in May 2005 in conjunction with the Central Coast Conservatorium.

This year the scholarship program has been sponsored by members of the community, with the Irvine Family continuing to sponsor the piano scholarship.

“This prestigious event is an excellent opportunity for students to perform for their local community and deliver truly breathtaking performances,” Conservatorium Artistic Director Patrick Brennan said.

“The Central Coast Conservatorium is most grateful for the significant financial awards that are offered by members of the Pearl Beach community and the commitment by the Irvine Family to the winners of this important event.

“The prizemoney will help them further their musical studies at the CCC.”

The Junior Showcase concert was introduced in 2013 to celebrate solo instrument and vocal performance by junior students.

“The showcase concert embraces the concept of ‘pure performance’ rather than ‘competitive performance’ and allows our younger musicians to perform with focus, passion and conviction,” Brennan said.

Winners of the 2024 scholarships will perform during the concerts and the winner of the 2012 Pearl Beach Scholarship, flautist Alyse Faith, will make a special guest appearance at the Saturday afternoon concert.

Faith has had an illustrious career including winning the Leslie Barklamb Flute Competition in 2018 and The Flutes in Tuscany Young Artist Award in 2019.

She is a casual musician with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra (MSO), Orchestra Victoria, Opera Australia Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic.

She was a member of the MSO Academy in 2023 and was guest principal flute with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Faith holds a Master of Arts in Performance degree from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
