Central Coast Mariners women’s team has kept grand final dreams alive with a spirited 2–2 draw against Ninja A-League Women’s Premiers Melbourne City in the first leg of their semi-final clash at Industree Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon, May 3.
Backed by a vocal home crowd in Gosford, the Mariners refused to be overawed by the high-flying visitors.
Brooke Nunn was the star of the show, netting the first goal and then a second superb brace to level the contest, with Melbourne City’s Leticia McKenna answering Nunn’s first goal.
The result sets up a mouthwatering second leg in Melbourne, with everything still to play for as the Coast side chases an historic berth in the grand final.
It was a gutsy effort from the Mariners, who showed composure and character to claw their way back into the match.
Coach Emily Husband praised the squad’s resilience and focus under pressure, saying the team had “earned the right to fight for a place in the final”.
The away leg to be played on Sunday, May 11 promises to be a fierce contest, but with belief, form, and momentum on their side, the Mariners are well in the hunt.
