Local Labor landslide mirrors national result

Labor's Dr Gordon Reid celebrates with a democracy sausage at Erina.

The Labor party has retained all three Federal seats on the Central Coast, mirroring the national mood.

The ALP received an increased primary vote in the electorates of Robertson, Dobell and Shortland.

This, combined with an increase in preference flows from other candidates, saw the ALP romp to victory.

Labor colleagues Dr Gordon Reid (Robertson), Emma McBride(Dobell) and Pat Conroy(Shortland) all wrote ‘thank you’ on their Facebook pages.

Their main local Liberal party challengers, Lucy Wicks (Robertson), Brendan Small (Dobell) and Emma King(Shortland), all suffered notable swings against them.

Nationally, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has led the Australian Labor Party (ALP) to a historic victory, securing a second consecutive term with an increased majority.

At midnight on Saturday, Labor was projected to win at least 86 seats in the 150-seat House of Representatives, surpassing the 76 needed for a majority.

This marks the first time since 2004 that a sitting prime minister has been re-elected with a larger majority, and the first time since 1901 that a Labor leader has achieved this feat.

More to come…
