Wyong Racing sparkles with Christmas family fun and chopper charity

'Race 8' was the Santa Dash at Wyong

The local Summer of Racing carnival continued in style at Wyong last Saturday, December 21 as the Club hosted its annual Christmas at the Races Family Fun Day.

Blessed with a perfect summer afternoon, nearly 2,000 attendees enjoyed an action-packed day filled with thrilling racing and festive entertainment.

The kids stole the show during the “Caroloake” competition, belting out their favourite Christmas tunes, while Santa’s presence and the wreath-throwing games added to the festive cheer.

However, the undisputed highlight of the day was the much-anticipated “Santa Race,” which drew both laughter and competitive spirit.

Participants secured their slots in the Santa Race for $100, with all proceeds supporting the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. In a dazzling display of speed, Luke from Addington Plumbing dominated from start to finish, earning a marquee for eight people on Australia Day.

Luke’s confidence shone before the race, declaring himself a “mortal,” and he was triumphantly chaired off by his friends after his emphatic victory.

“It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the day here on Saturday,” said Wyong Race Club Chairman John Waghorn. “From the moment guests arrived, greeted by kids singing Christmas carols, the atmosphere was electric.

With all our corporate facilities sold out and over $12,000 raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, it was a truly memorable day.

The Santa Race, in particular, kept the crowd buzzing until the very end.”

The festive spirit rolls into the New Year with the Club’s next meeting on December 31. A bumper crowd is expected for a thrilling program headlined by the Group 3 $250,000 Belle of the Turf and the Listed Gosford Guineas.

Patrons can enjoy free entry by booking their tickets online before midnight on December 30.

On January 11, Wyong will celebrate its Lakes Race Day with the prestigious $500,000 Wyong Leagues Group Lakes Mile as the centrepiece.

With no competing meetings in Sydney, record-breaking attendance is anticipated, drawing locals, holidaymakers, and racing fans from across the state.

This milestone event will also honour 150 years of racing in the Wyong district.

“We’re expecting a massive turnout for Lakes Day,” said Waghorn. “It’s a special occasion that not only celebrates our rich history but promises top-tier racing and entertainment for everyone.”

The Club’s January calendar concludes with meetings on January 18 and Australia Day, ensuring the Summer of Racing at Wyong continues to delight fans and families alike.
