North Construction & Building Pty Ltd (North) is mixing things up at the top level, with Matthew Cook transitioning from his current role as Managing Director to Executive Chairman from January.
John Melvin, who has been with the company since 2009 and a Director since 2019, will transition into the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
This leadership transition follows a 38-year history of employee ownership and a strong commitment to building excellence.
Earlier this year, North expanded its employee ownership to 22, with seven additional shareholders, further reinforcing the company’s legacy of shared success.
Melvin’s journey with North began more than15 years ago, and his passion for the construction industry and pursuit of excellence have been key drivers behind the company’s continued success.
“Joining North was a pivotal moment in my career, a place where I felt my personal values were very closely aligned,” he said.
“I’m proud to work with the North team and I look forward to continuing our journey of delivering great buildings … and helping shape that journey in my new role.”
With 33 years of experience in the construction industry, Melvin has played an integral role in North’s growth and success.
He has delivered solid results across multiple sectors, including commercial, residential, industrial, health, hospitality, heritage and education, in both Australia and the UK.
As Director since 2019, he has helped lead North through a period of expansion and continued success.
Melvin’s appointment to CEO signals the next phase in North’s strategic growth, with a focus on building on the company’s strong foundation of stakeholder trust and employee ownership.
Working closely with Matthew Cook, who will continue to provide leadership and strategic direction as Executive Chairman, Melvin is poised to guide North into a new era.
The leadership changes come as North strengthens its commitment to providing innovative, high-quality solutions to its clients while ensuring that its employees and sub-contractor partners continue to benefit from the company’s ongoing success.
