As a former mayor of Gosford, I will be voting for the reduced number of councillors, namely nine, at the referendum on September 14 at the local government election.
Those people who advocate for the greater number, 15, and talk about reduced democracy fail to see that extra numbers mean reduced responsibility and we all know how that worked out last time.
Councillors need to work on policy and let the employees of Central Coast Council deal with all the parish pump issues, and then if they get no satisfaction, by all means ask an elected representative for help.
Too often squabbling as a council over small issues leaves no time for the important ones.
Trying to come to some sort of consensus is hard enough for nine people let alone 15.
Let’s have a lean council and that should start at the top.
