Evacuations, power outages and transport disruptions across the Coast

Extensive roof damage occured at Long Jetty, forcing road closures.

Evacuation orders were issued yesterday for parts of Wamberal and The Entrance North as severe coastal erosion and dangerous waves threatened homes, while wild weather battered the Central Coast, causing widespread damage and power outages.

The NSW State Emergency Service directed residents along Pacific Street, Wamberal – including properties at 15, 17, 19, 23AA, 23A, 25, 29 and 31 – to evacuate immediately due to high risks of structural damage from coastal erosion and continued storm activity.

At The Entrance North, beachfront properties near Hutton Road and the Dunleith Caravan Park were also under evacuation orders.

The storm brought destructive winds that tore roofing from homes and businesses along the Central Coast Highway at Long Jetty, forcing the closure of the highway in both directions between Thompson Street and Toowoon Bay Road. The Ridgeway at Tumbi Umbi was also closed near house number 693 due to trees and power lines down.

Tens of thousands of homes across the region were without power, with Ausgrid crews stretched as they responded to ongoing outages and fallen powerlines.

Residents are advised to report outages online or via 13 13 88, but should expect delays.

Power restoration is expected progressively across affected suburbs, including Wamberal, Killarney Vale, Erina, Gosford, and Wyong, with many areas not expected to see power restored until early Wednesday morning.

Train services between Wyong and Fassifern were replaced by limited buses due to overhead wiring damage at Dora Creek and Koolewong.

Trains from Sydney were terminating at Hawkesbury River, with passengers advised to change at Hornsby, while northbound services were terminating at Gosford.

Emergency services and Council crews are working to clear roads of fallen trees and debris, but further closures are likely as severe weather continues to impact the region.

Residents are urged to stay clear of coastal edges, follow evacuation instructions, and check the SES and Council websites for the latest updates on closures and safety warnings.

Power outages plagued the region overnight, with Ausgrid reporting over 10,000 properties were affected. Many outages were rectified overnight, though some outages are likely to continue well into Wednesday morning.
