Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie crew deployed to search for missing boater

A man’s body has been located following a marine search for a missing fisherman on Lake Macquarie near Summerland Point.

At about 4pm on Thursday, May 29, police were called to Summerland Point following reports an 82-year-old man had not returned from a fishing trip on Lake Macquarie.

Officers attached to Tuggerah Lakes Police District and Marine Area Command – with assistance from Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie and Surf Life Saving NSW – began searching for the man after his abandoned boat was located.

Marine Rescue NSW Inspector Steve Raymond said a crew was rapidly assembled and rescue vessel Lake Macquarie 31 deployed to search around Frying Pan Bay.

During the search – with assistance from a Surf Life Saving NSW helicopter – the body of the man was located in the water at about 7.40pm.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
