Council tips go cashless

Buttonderry Waste Management Facility

Central Coast Council will transition its Buttonderry and Woy Woy waste management facilities to a fully cashless payment system from July 1.

The move reportedly aligns with Council’s commitment to improving operational efficiency.

Council Director Infrastructure Services Boris Bolgoff said the change reflected shifting customer preferences and delivered practical cost savings.

“Only 5% of customers currently use cash at our weighbridge facilities,” he said.

“Handling cash is time-consuming and requires collection by an external cash transport service.

“Transitioning to a cashless model will reduce customer wait time at the weighbridge and lower operational costs, aligning with Council’s current customer service practices.”

Residents can continue to dispose of a wide range of recyclable items free of charge, including: e-waste (such as televisions, computers and mobile phones); glass bottles and jars; batteries; and scrap metals (such as bikes, trampolines and whitegoods).

“Our customer service centres have already gone cashless and this is the natural next step,” Bolgoff added.
